Flame Issues - Smoky / Foggy AppearanceUpdated 6 months ago

Has your flame ever looked like this?

This smoky or foggy flame effect can be caused by a couple of factors:

  1. High humidity in the room
  2.  Flame needs to be customized to your environment
  3. Sponge Filters covering the front fans are pulled up too high
  4. Sponge Filters covering the front fans are too thin for your environment

The solutions to this common issue are below:

  1. High humidity in the room - lower the humidity in the room by closing any doors and adjusting the HVAC in the room
  2. You can find instructions for customizing your Aquafire to your environment HERE
  3. Sponge Filter Solutions - first check that your filters covering your front fans are fully seated. Just moving the front fan filters up by a 1/4" can push out too much mist and create a foggy effect and potentially cause a mist overproduction that can damage internal electrical connections and light strips. The ring lift for the front fan filters can be found here. There is 1 filter per 20". So a 20" has 1 fan filter, a 40" has 2 fan filters and a 60" has 3 fan filters:
  4. Thin Sponge Filter - Newer Aquafire and Aquafire Pro's came with a thinner front fan filter to increase flame height and density. However, it is not a universal fit for all installations. The thinner sponge filter has been known to cause the foggy look for some. We have thicker sponge filters on the way but they will not arrive until late October 2024. If you would like to request new fan filter covers please send an email to [email protected]. We will provide free front fan filters to all Aquafire and Aquafire Pro's still under warranty. We will need the serial number and size (20", 40" and 60") of your Aquafire or Aquafire Pro.
  5. A temporary solution to test if the sponge filter is too thin is to cut a thin piece of paper such as a post-it note to be about a quarter of the size of the front sponge and place it there. Or take painters tape and place it on the bottom half of the sponge. This should dramatically reduce the foggy flame appearance if the sponge filter thickness is the issue.
