The Aquafire is not typically placed outdoors or rated for outdoor use, but can be installed with proper precautions. It needs to be under a covered porch or roof as rain and debris can easily get inside the Aquafire if left exposed. A wind screen is needed around the Aquafire to protect the vapor flames from heavy winds and cross-breezes. You will also need to drain the Aquafire before potentially freezing weather.
Do not put the Aquafire in a completely closed glass container. Doing so can create condensation since the vapor flames are not able to dissipate into the ambient air.
That being said, we have had plenty of customers successfully install the Aquafire in an outdoor setting. The picture below is an Aquafire fire feature on the porch of a restaurant in Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. This install has clear, glass wind screens around the perimeter of the installation to keep strong wind currents from disrupting the flame:
