Media/Accessory Use on InsertUpdated a year ago

You are absolutely able to put rocks or other media on the Aquafire insert. When the top vents are covered, you'll need air coming into the vents located on the front and back bottom of the insert. This is usually accomplished by a toe kick that is open to the room for adequate air intake (see image below). We recommend putting whatever media or accessories you like - river rock*, a lightweight log set*, glass stones*... the possibilities are endless - on a lightweight cut out that sits on top of the insert and is easy to remove. This will come in handy when you go to do light cleaning and any necessary maintenance.

The air intake requirements are as follows:

  • 20" insert requires 50 sq inches of unrestricted air intake
  • 40" insert requires 100 sq inches of unrestricted air intake
  • 60" insert requires 150 sq inches of unrestricted air intake
  • Etc... if you have multiples installed into one enclosure, each 20" needs at least 50 sq inches of unrestricted air intake to create the vapor flame effect.
