Causes:

Revit does not support STP direct import.

Solution:

To get the file into Revit, use one of the following options:
  • Use alternate format out of the host software to then be used in Revit (DWG/SAT).
  1. Import STEP into AutoCAD.
  2. Save the file as a DWG.
  3. Import DWG file into Revit.

Via Inventor or Fusion 360

  1. Open the STEP File with either Inventor or Fusion 360.
  2. After opening the file with one of the programs above please Export As an SAT file.
  3. Open Revit and click on Insert.
  4. In the Insert tab pick between Link CAD or Import CAD and select the SAT file type.

Via Navisworks Manage or Simulate

  1. Open the file in Navisworks.
  2. Save it as NWD file.
  3. Open Revit and to click on the Insert panel.
  4. Select the Coordination Model.
  5. Press Add and search for the NWD/NWC files.
Note: The STP file can not be edited once loaded into Revit. Make any needed changes to the file prior to linking the file into Revit.
